Ah, my favorite stove of all .There are about as many ways to light a 123 as there are owners . Everybody seemed to have their own special ritual. I used to place my stove on a specially cut piece of 1/4" ensolite and then place that combination in the base of the Sigg cook kit that was designed for the stove
I would remove the flame spreader and pour a little bit of white gas down the tube and allow it to collect in the small depression where the tank & stem meet
Replace the flame spreader and with the stove in the off position light the fuel and allow it to burn until the flame is extinguished
Turn the stove on until you just hear the hiss of escaping vaporized fuel
light it and then turn it up to full flame
If you dont have completely vaporized fuel but a combination of gas and liquid .
Allow enough fuel to escape to refill the bowl turn off the stove and then repeat the
process . Do not set you or your gear on fire by allowing to much gas to flow and ignite.
Svea 123 ‘s are a bit tricky to light at first , but once you get the hang of it ,they are really great stoves to use.
As part of daily stove maintanance remember to clean the orifice and re-fill the stove prior to use. Running out of fuel in the middle of cooking is a bad event because you cannot refill the hot stove.
