Eight Cooking Equipment to Bring When Camping

Camping is one of the world's most enjoyable outdoor activities. When you camp, the activity allows you to have fun, adventure, and knowledge while taking on the challenge of temporarily living outdoors. A lot of people consider camping as a relaxing recreational activity in itself. Sometimes, camping is an activity in conjunction to a more rigorous sport such as mountain climbing or whitewater rafting.

Aside from being a recreational activity, camping is also done for more serious intentions. For instance, researchers and scientists camp near a volcano or an unusual land feature to study it. Adventurers camp near the highest mountains in preparation for breaking world records by climbing these dangerous heights. Soldiers set up field camps during missions.

An integral part of enjoying camping is eating meals. There's always this magical feeling when you partake of your dinner outdoors, watching a beautiful sunset or listening to the murmurs of a stream.

While some campers carry along ready-to-eat meals (MREs), most find enjoyment in preparing them on site. Most of the meals are simple and easy to prepare.

To enjoy more in cooking outdoors, you must bring along some appropriate cooking equipment. Some of these equipment are the following.

1. Matches — How can you cook without a fire? Well, you can produce cooking fire the old way by striking flint and stone or by rubbing two sticks of wood together. An easier way though is to bring waterproof matches. If waterproof matches can't be obtained, then bring standard matches.

2. Portable stove — Making a cooking fire can be a hassle or even dangerous. Thus some people bring on butane-fueled portable stove. They are safer, and the fire can be controlled.

3. Pans — Pans are perfect for preparing simple food such as fried ones. Just put it over the fire, put some oil, toss the ingredients, and you'll have a hearty meal in no time at all.

4. Crock pot — Also called a slow cooker, this can be brought if you have a means of generating electricity, usually by bringing along a generator. Crock pots allow you to cook food in a much-longer time. It allows you to prepare more gourmet meals, such as delicious crock pot chicken recipes , even in the midst of the wilderness.

5. Pot — A normal pot, in lieu of a slow cooker, allows you to cook boiled foods such as soups, coffee, stews, and other hot beverages that require liquids and sauces.

6. Utensils — Preparing food in the wild involves a lot of cutting, skinning, shaving, and crushing. Thus utensils and tools should be brought too. Utensils include forks, spoon, knives, and the like.

7. Plates, bowls, and glasses — Many people find it gross if you eat straight from a bowl or a frying pan or drink straight from the pitcher. Thus you need to bring plates, bowls, and glasses to put food into. Eating from plates or bowls is also more convenient and cleaner than using large leaves as plates or drinking cups. If bringing plastic ones are an inconvenience, you can always use disposable ones made of cardboard or paper.

8. Plastic containers — You can prepare precooked meals, such as crock pot spaghetti bolognaise , and place them inside plastic containers. When you reach the campsite, all you have to do is to warm them. Also, plastic containers are handy for keeping spices, condiments, and other ingredients necessary for cooking.
