The family picnic had been scheduled for months. Catherine could hardly wait! The day finally arrived when the family filled the camping cooler with soft drinks, packed all the picnic supplies into the picnic hamper, and loaded their Coleman grill into the vehicle.
They would meet the rest of the family at a state park up in the mountains. Catherine was excited to see her cousins again. They would have so much fun playing before it was time to eat! When the family arrived, Catherine saw that her grandparents had already picked out the picnic tables they would be using. She helped her Dad unload the grill, then carried the picnic hamper for her Mom.
Catherine watched as her Dad and uncles set up the grill. It was a portable propane barbecue grill. Catherine and her Mom had saved their money for a long time to get it for Dad. Her Dad said it was the best Father’s day present he could have ever received! It had come with many grill accessories. It had place to put the tongs, fork and spatula. It had a collapsible tray on both sides. Dad used one side to put the meat platter one and the other one for the barbecue sauce.
Catherine remembered the day she and Mom brought it home and set it up. There had been so many different grills to choose from! They had pored over the propane grill reviews while trying to decide which grill to purchase. They saw compact propane cooking grills, the Coleman 3000 grill, propane outdoor grills, and even a camping portable propane griddle grill! Mom and Catherine had finally decided to get the Coleman Road Trip Grill. They had wanted to set it up for Dad. It was a complete surprise to him! Dad knew they had carefully read the safety guidelines before setting up the grill. Catherine proudly explained to Dad that she had connected the propane grill regulator hose all by herself!
Now Dad was setting up the grill with her uncles. She watched as he put in the grease drip pan and attached the side tables. Soon he would get it lit and start cooking. As she went to play with her cousins, Catherine could smell the delicious aroma of hamburgers and hot dogs. Mom and her aunts set out the potato salad, coleslaw, chips, and condiments. Mom had found a Coleman stove recipes book, and found a recipe for shish kabobs. Dad had just put them on the grill and they were almost done! Soon everything was ready. Everyone ate until they couldn’t eat another bite! Dad had brought some marshmallows. The children were allowed to use the camp forks and roast marshmallows over the grill. Later in the evening, Dad carefully took the grill apart. Mom had brought cleaning supplies and Dad was able to clean everything at the outdoor faucet. Then it was time to repack everything in the car and go home. Catherine sat in the back seat and thought about what a good day it had been. She was already looking forward to next year’s family picnic. She smiled sleepily as she thought about how glad she was that she and Mom had been able to buy the Coleman Road Trip Grill for Dad! |
